Limitations And Future Research

DESPICABLE SCAM|BREAST CANCER RELIEF COMMITTEE SCAMMERS

The current study evinced that reflexology has significant positive effects on the nausea-vomiting-retching and fatigue of breast cancer patients. In this regard, the results we obtained are quite valuable. Reflexology can be safely used by patients with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, the use of reflexology for breast cancer patients can be suggested by health professionals. This study’s limitation is conducting the research with female patients only. Future work is suggested to be done in mixed groups involving women and men.

Invasive cancer cells can also spread, or metastasize, to other parts of the body. 2 Invasive lobular carcinoma. Cancer cells spread from the lobules to the breast tissues that are close by. These invasive cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body.

Rhodes Index Of Nausea Vomiting And Retching

INVR was developed by Rhodes and McDaniel and adapted into the Turkish society by Genç and Tan. In this study, the alpha internal consistency coefficient of the Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching Index was determined as 0.94. To score the Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching Index, items 1, 3, 6, and 7 are reversed. The scoring of each item is made as follows: 0 = minimum distress and 4 = maximum distress. The scale involves three subscales as the symptom experience, symptom development, and symptom distress.

Is Abcc A Pac

The Daily Beast reported that ABCC is one of several political groups masquerading as charities, who raise money for a number of issues but eventually channel that money into raising more money. Eric Friedman, the head of Marylands Montgomery County Department of Consumer Protection, said, Scammers are clever and constantly moving. So it looks like the trajectory started as phony charities, who then decided they were better off operating as phony FEC groups, and now the latest transition just in time for Halloween, I guess is to be a phony PAC registered with the IRS instead of with the FEC.

This is why research is crucial when youre making a donation. When selecting a breast cancer charity to identify with or support, its important to choose one thats right for you

Dont Reveal Personal Information

No matter how convincing the caller sounds, dont give away any sensitive details over the phone. The caller may know a lot about you, but thats not difficult to find out with social media and Google.

People are more likely to reveal their information to callers who know things like:

  • Where they work
  • What the names of their family members are
  • What charity they donated to

If you would like to make a donation to a breast cancer foundation, go online, check the organization, and donate through proper channels.

Dont Talk To The Caller

In case you do answer a robocall, hang up as soon as you realize that you are conversing with a machine. Some robocalls are made just to confirm that the number is active and that there is a real person on the other end.

Robocallers can sell valid phone numbers for a lot of money to other fraudsters, so if you manage to stay silent, the caller may not be able to verify that you are human. This can potentially take you off the calling list.

If you do say something, make sure its not the word yes because it can be recorded and used to authorize deals and transactions you know nothing about.

Are They Asking For An Instant Donation

If a breast cancer charity asks you to give away your financial details to make an instant donation, then something is not right. They are supposed to explain how to make a donation and allow you to think about it, verify all the information, and transfer money to the account when you are ready.

Robocall scammers tend to present the matter as urgent, requesting an immediate response. If the caller is too pushy or they demand your bank account details on the spot, just hang up because every legitimate organization would know better than to ask for such sensitive data to be passed over the phone.

How To Recognize Breast Cancer Robocall Scams

Recognizing a charity robocall scam is not easy. If the cause is personal to you in any way, you will be even more biased and unable to observe things objectively. In case you receive a call from an organization that collects donation for breast cancer issues, pay attention to the following:

  • Is it a robocall?
  • Can you check the organization online?
  • Do they have a valid Form 990?
  • Are they asking for an instant donation?

Scam Pacs Are On The Rise: Dont Confuse Them For Legitimate Charities

Political action committees, also known as PACs, are not the same thing as public charities, but some questionable actors from the charity world may be confusing donors into thinking otherwise. These individuals appear to be operating, or providing the for-profit fundraising and administrative support for, what have been dubbed scam PACs to enrich themselves at the expense of the donating public. Over the past several years, there has been an alarming rise in these so-called scam PACs, as has been detailed in reporting by POLITICO and The New York Times, among others. Scam PACs raise most of their funds from small-dollar donors and use skillfully crafted names to evoke popular charitable causes, according to such reports. Unfortunately, when giving to a scam PAC, a donor who thinks she just gave money to help veterans, first responders, or cancer victims may have done little more than help line the pockets of a greedy fundraiser or PAC executive instead. According to an analysis by The Center for Public Integrity , the names of some of these scam PACs are listed below.

Many of these names could easily be confused with public charities, such as Autism Speaks, National Association of Police Organizations, or Veterans Assistance Foundation. And that is likely the point.

This Breast Cancer Charity Is The Big New Scam In Politics

A New View of Palliative Care in Breast Cancer Treatment: Any Age, Any Stage

A political group posing as a charity spends nearly all of its money on fundraising. Thats not new. What is new is that its not even registered with the FECand its legal.

Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily Beast

This October, as Americans mark another Breast Cancer Awareness month, many organizations and advocates are looking for ways to support the cause. But theres one group donors may want to avoid: The American Breast Cancer Coalition.

Although it sounds like a noble charity, the ABCC is actually a political groupand rather than trying to actually address breast cancer, the ABCC appears to be a scheme to extract millions of dollars in donations, mostly from small contributors.

In recent robocalls, a feminine voice claims the goal of the groups fundraising is to support legislators who will fight for the fast track approval of life-saving breast cancer health bills and breast cancer treatment drugs to the FDA.

But financial records on file with the Internal Revenue Service tell a different story, reviewed in a joint investigation between The Daily Beast and OpenSecrets, revealing payments to firms with ties to a multimillion-dollar scam PAC network.

In May 2019, Bill Davis created the nonprofit, and the group quickly started raising money.

Whats more, its not alone.

Lloyd Mayer, a nonprofit law expert at the University of Notre Dame Law School, explained why the change poses a new hurdle.

Scam Pacs Rake In Millions Under Guise Of Charity

Its like when they asked Willie Sutton, Why do you rob banks? He said, Because thats where the money is,& quot FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub said of groups that raise money, but don& #39 t spent it on political activities.

A web of new political action committees raised nearly $6 million in recent months under the guise of supporting police, veterans and cancer research. But nearly all the money has gone to their own vendors and staff, as opposed to those causes hallmarks of so-called scam PACs.

Several of the people and entities involved in the new PACs have been investigated for alleged fraud and other illegal practices in the charity sphere. But after coming under scrutiny, they have shifted recently into the much less regulated realm of politics, a POLITICO investigation has found.

The new PACs have feel-good names like Cops and Kids Together and Americans for the Cure of Breast Cancer. They have succeeded in raising millions of dollars from small donors in a matter of months and spent most of it just as quickly, without supporting political candidates or making a mark on a policy issue. Their activities highlight an unpleasant truth: Political groups often receive less oversight and get more leeway than charities, even though they have to disclose more details about their donations and spending. Indeed, the Federal Election Commission has said it is all but powerless to crack down on scam PACs.

Neither happened.

How To Stop Breast Cancer Robocalls

Reporting robocalls may be crucial for tracking down and prosecuting fraudsters, but it wont block spam calls. So, how to stop robocalls? You will need some help from technology experts.

All phone carriers in the U.S. offer robocall blockers that are getting better in recognizing and blocking spam calls before they come down to you. Additional protection comes in the form of third-party apps that screen your calls and stop robocalls at the source.

You should know that the above is valid only for mobile phones and digital home phones. Traditional landlines are difficult to protect, although there are some services that you could try out. There are also call-blocking devices that you can add to your home phone if robocallers are persistent.

In case you are struggling with robocall harassment, check out the robocall-blocking options in the table below.

How To Protect Yourself Against Scam Pacs

Some telemarketers who claim to be raising money for causes like homeless veterans and cancer victims work for political action committees , not charities, and keep much of the money they raise. Some tips for consumers:

⢠Listen carefully for the name of the organization. Legitimate charities can be checked on websites such as www.guidestar.org.⢠Ask if the donation is tax-deductible. Gifts to actual charities are donations to PACs, which sometimes sound like charities, are not.⢠Never disclose personal information.⢠Or follow the simplest rule: âNever give to anyone over the phone,â said Margot Saunders, senior counsel for the National Consumer Law Center.

Joseph Tanfani

If the potential donors suspected they had given to the group before, the callers were instructed to say: âI have no way of knowing because we feel that donations are given from the heart, not the hand, so we keep all donation records confidential,â according to the FAQ.

The PAC, organized by Zachary Bass, spent 90% of its take on fundraising, campaign filings show. It spent $103,700 on behalf of House candidates â about 3% of the total, and it has contributed nothing directly to veterans groups.

Bass, who set up several other super PACs, declined to comment.

Across the industry, calls are computer-generated before being routed to telemarketers, something Politicause and TPFE employees said allowed their firms to maximize the number of calls â and to pester people repeatedly.

How To Handle Robocalls From Fake Breast Cancer Charities

The best course of action is not to answer the phone, but with spoofing, this may not be possible. Its essential to follow this advice if you realize that you are on a suspicious robocall regarding breast cancer:

  • Dont talk to the caller
  • Dont follow the callers instructions
  • Dont reveal personal information
  • Breaking Down The Hustle

Con artists refer to what they do as a hustle. A hustle is like the 70s disco dance. Its made up of series of regular steps timed to the beat of the music that can be improvised as needed. Charity hustles work the same way. They improvise and evolve to stay one step ahead of unsuspecting donors.

One very common hustle is the name game. For example, a very well known and respected group is the Make a Wish Foundation. This organization spends the vast majority of its donations on children. Kids Wish Network, however, spends only 3 cents of every dollar collected on kids. But their website and solicitations are designed to look and sound like Make a Wish. In fact, they count on the confusion to gather contributions.
