Early Detection And Treatment Research
The Breast Specialized Programs of Research Excellence are designed to quickly move basic scientific findings into clinical settings. The Breast SPOREs support the development of new therapies and technologies, and studies to better understand tumor resistance, diagnosis, prognosis, screening, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer.
The NCI Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network focuses on using modeling to improve our understanding of how prevention, early detection, screening, and treatment affect breast cancer outcomes.
The Confluence Project, from NCIâs Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics , is developing a research resource that includes data from thousands of breast cancer patients and controls of different races and ethnicities. This resource will be used to identify genes that are associated with breast cancer risk, prognosis, subtypes, response to treatment, and second breast cancers.
The goal of the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium , an NCI-funded program launched in 1994, is to enhance the understanding of breast cancer screening practices in the United States and their impact on the breast cancerâs stage at diagnosis, survival rates, and mortality.
There are ongoing programs at NCI that support prevention and early detection research in different cancers, including breast cancer. Examples include:

Managing Cancer Drug Resistance From The Perspective Of Inflammation
The development of multidrug resistance in cancer chemotherapy is a major obstacle to the effective treatment of human malignant tumors. Several epidemiological studies have demonstrated that inflammation is closely related to cancer and plays a key role in the development of both solid and liquid tumors. Therefore, targeting inflammation and the molecules involved in the inflammatory process may be a good strategy for treating drug-resistant tumors. In this review, we discuss the molecular mechanisms underlying inflammation in regulating anticancer drug resistance by modulating drug action and drug-mediated cell death pathways. Inflammation alters the effectiveness of drugs through modulation of the expression of multidrug efflux transporters and drug-metabolizing enzymes . In addition, inflammation can protect cancer cells from drug-mediated cell death by regulating DNA damage repair, downstream adaptive response , and tumor microenvironment. Intriguingly, manipulating inflammation may affect drug resistance through various molecular mechanisms validated by in vitro/in vivo models. In this review, we aim to summarize the underlying molecular mechanisms that inflammation participates in cancer drug resistance and discuss the potential clinical strategies targeting inflammation to overcome drug resistance.

Translational Cancer Research is an international, open access, peer-reviewed journal indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded . The journal features original, science-based investigations on the clinical, basic, and translational aspects of cancer research which successfully advance clinical medicine towards the goal of improving the patients’ quality of life.
A journals impact factor is a measurement of citation frequency that reflects the average number of citations to articles published in science and social science journals. Impact factors are calculated annually for those journals that are indexed in the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports. The impact factor of a journal in a given year is the average number of citations a paper published in that journal received during the two previous years. The impact factor is often used to rank the relative importance and scientific caliber of a journal within its field.
