Applying Latest Advances Of Artificial Intelligence To
Medical Imaging in Breast Cancer Detection.
“Scientific studies carried out both in the USA and in Europe, published in peer reviewed medical journals, have proved that adding ABUS to FFDM in screening asymptomatic women with dense breast tissue improves the detection of invasive breast cancer cases significantly.
Reading the large number of ABUS images can be both time consuming and often distracting. It can be compared to paging through six books . QVIEW CAD provides a single image of each acquisition by seeing through all the pages and automatically highlighting the entire 3D breast in a single image, pointing out the lesion and its location accurately. This makes reading much shorter and more focused. The combination of QVCAD added to ABUS will revolutionize our way of screening asymptomatic women with dense breasts.”
Inside The Carol Hatton Breast Care Center
The new center at Ryan Ranch is about 10,000 square feet, with advanced technology and expertly trained staff for the best in breast care and bone-density scanning.
1. 3D mammography
Using an advanced technique called tomosynthesis, multiple images of the breast are combined into a highly detailed 3D image for preventive screening.
2. Diagnostic and 3D mammography
Diagnostic mammograms are performed when a patient has a breast concern, such as a lump or pain, or needs further examination after a screening mammogram.
3. Interventional and 3D mammography
Targeted biopsies are done when lesions are detected through a mammogram.
4. Automated breast ultrasound
An automated ultrasound is used in addition to mammography for women with dense breast tissue. About 40 percent of women are in this category.
5. Diagnostic automated breast ultrasound
Automated ultrasound is used for diagnostic studies after a screening has detected an issue that warrants further examination.
6. Ultrasound
Hand-held ultrasound scanning of the breast and underarm are done for diagnostic and interventional exams, such as needle-guided biopsies and placement of wires used as guides in breast-cancer surgery.
7. Bone density
Specific areas of bone are scanned during a bone-density exam to determine the risk for osteoporosis, which causes bones to become weak and brittle.

MONTEREY, Calif.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday for a new breast care center in the Ryan Ranch area of Monterey. The Carol Hatton Breast Care Center was put together by the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and will officially open on April 5.
The new facility is twice as large as their old one and has updated technology. In the 10,000-square-foot center there will be rooms dedicated to mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and bone density scanning to look for the risk of osteoporosis. Along with the technology, the designers of the new facility say the outdoor areas, natural light and art pieces contribute to a calming environment.
Those at the ribbon-cutting ceremony included breast cancer survivors, the leadership of C.H.O.M.P., doctors and staff who work at the center, and the husband of the Carol Hatton the woman the center was named after.
Carol Hatton was a former development officer for Community Hospital, who helped spearhead fundraising for breast care until her death from breast cancer in 2009.
As of now, the new center only takes up half the building and Montage Health, C.H.O.M.P.’s parent company, is still considering what that space could be used for.

New Breast Care Center Nearing Completion
The new Carol Hatton Breast Care Center is taking shape, with anticipated opening in early 2021. It is nestled among other Montage Health buildings in a growing medical campus at Ryan Ranch in Monterey.Half of the 21,000-square-foot building will house the breast care center, while the use of the other half is still under discussion as community health needs are assessed. The breast care center has outgrown its current site, on Cass Street in Monterey. The new center will improve access to care by expanding capacity and feature advanced technology to support early detection of breast cancer.
Highlights include:
- 2 3D breast ultrasound machines, for women with dense breast tissue
- 2 handheld ultrasound machines
- 2 bone density scanners
The projected cost is $23.5 million, paid for in part by gifts to Montage Health Foundation. It is named for Carol Hatton, a former foundation employee who led campaigns to raise money for breast cancer care, before passing away from the disease.
