Camp Kesem is wonderful! This summer, our kids went to Camp Kesem for the first time. Camp Kesem provides a free week of summer camp for kids of parents with cancer.
There are various camps around the country run by volunteers including 3,000 passionate college student leaders.

Its important that young cancer patients and survivors not feel as though their diagnosis defines them. One way to ensure that doesnt happen is to focus on developing strength and skills through outdoor adventures.
Thats the idea behind First Descents. Serving both young cancer patients and young cancer survivors, this organization provides them with access to free outdoor recreational programs that involve paddling, climbing, and surfing to ultimately help them define their own identities.
The physical nature of these adventures can also provide young cancer survivors with many of the same benefits of the Livestrong at the YMCA program. By exercising in the form of fun outdoor activities, they may develop the strength necessary to recover more quickly than they otherwise would. They can also connect with other young people whove shared experiences like theirs, which is often very helpful at times when they may still need some support from understanding friends.

For example, the team at Mercy Medical Angels understands that getting treatment for a serious medical condition can often require a substantial amount of travel. They help by offering cancer patients and others like them free transportation when a patient needs to travel to receive medical care.

Thankfully, programs like PPA can help by providing free money to cancer patients, in the form of free or reduced-cost prescriptions.
Their easy-to-use online website provides a list of multiple prescription assistance programs that you may qualify for as a cancer patient.
Another resource offering financial assistance for cancer patients is Needy Meds. Needy Meds offers a free Drug Discount Card, which provides savings of up to 80% on prescription medications.

Fight Through Flights, Inc. aims to empower and support the healing of Black women living with breast cancer and breast cancer survivors by providing free wellness retreats and travel experiences as well as mental health, nutrition and fitness resources.
Their vision is to create a safe space for Black women to fight and heal from breast cancer and to easily connect them with black professionals in the mental health, fitness, and nutrition fields.
Here Is How This Works:
- The person you are nominating must actively be in treatment for breast cancer
- We will send an email confirming the nominee has been selected
- If a 3rd party nominated a person, both people will receive an email. Sorry, but because we are sourcing personal information , the person nominating someone may not remain anonymous
- The nominee will receive a Tutu Care Package in the mail
- At this time cheer packages can only be shipped within the United States
- Please note that we send out a maximum of five packages per month

Box Of Hope Partnership
Twisted Pink has partnered with the United Breast Cancer Foundation to support breast cancer patients and survivors beginning in 2021 with our Box of Hope program. The support comes in the form of available resources and health & beauty products mailed as a Hope Box to breast cancer patients and survivors. Throughout 2021, over 1,200 Boxes of Hope were mailed to early and late-stage breast cancer patients across the United States and Canada.
We are excited to partner with the United Breast Cancer Foundation to reach more individuals with a unique program to ship gifts of support to survivors and look forward to continuing this program in the months and years to come. We are grateful for UBCFs ongoing partnership to help Twisted Pink in supporting individuals affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. Its exciting to realize the potential number of individuals we could support throughout the country, Caroline Johnson, Executive Director, Twisted Pink.
The United Breast Cancer Foundation has generously donated the gifts for the Hope Box program. The boxes are filled with health & beauty items to help survivors and patients enjoy these gifts following what are often expensive treatments for breast cancer. The box includes a variety of items such as jewelry, Savvy Minerals makeup, CBD lotion & oils, herbal tea & more. The retail value of the box is approximately $250.00 per recipient.
Look Good Feel Better Program
Cancer patients can get free makeup and cosmetics. The Look Good Feel Better program gives free makeup to cancer patients.
Just before I started chemo for breast cancer I attended one of these sessions. The Look Good Feel Better program is a 2-hour, hands-on workshop that gives cancer patients tips for hair loss, nail care, makeup, clothing, and more.
I came home with a large cosmetic bag filled with all kinds of beauty goodies.
Unfortunately, The Look Good Feel Better program is no longer funded by the American Cancer Society. Now very few Cancer Centers offer this program. Contact yours to see if they still do. Also, keep in mind these programs can also benefit from donations.

Something To Look Forward To
Having something positive to look forward to is a great motivator for cancer patients to get through treatment. You can plan something to anticipate, or keep them reminded of a goal they have.
When my sister was very sick with ovarian cancer, her friends and family did a mini-makeover on her kitchen, living room and dining room.including paint, new decor, new couch, etc. She got to come home to a fabulous, clean and beautiful home to recuperate!!!

Its important that cancer patients receive support from loved ones and doctors. However, while these people may be able to offer sympathy, they might not be able to offer true empathy. This is simply because if theyve never had cancer they cant genuinely know what a cancer patient is going through.

The Story Of Cancer Card Xchange
Back in 2007, Emily Thomas had oral squamous cell carcinoma during her pregnancy with her fourth son.
She went to MD Anderson in Houston for surgery, and when she got there friends had sent her an assortment of gift cards for popular restaurants in the area.
That simple gesture of kindness motivated her to help other cancer patients through their journey with The Cancer Card Xchange.
On the website, people can choose to donate or request gift cards.
As of January 6, 2022, Cancer Card Xchange is not accepting new referrals for the free gift cards at this time.
Once the Patient Referral System contains 100 patients, they stop accepting new referrals. When they clear the waiting list of patients, they will open the Patient Referral System again.
