About Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every October. The aim of the BCAM is to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day.
Over 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year alone.
That equates to 55 Australians every day.
And over 3000 Australians will lose their lives to breast cancer this year. Thats someones mother, sister, friend or family member whose life has been tragically cut short because of the disease.
Although the five-year survival rate has increased from 76% to 91% since 1994 thanks to research, there is still progress to be made to stop deaths from breast cancer. By targeting the remaining 9% who dont live past this survival rate, NBCFs goal is to reach Zero Deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
We rely entirely on generous donations from the Australian community to fund leading breast cancer researchers. Through these funds, we are able to invest in world-class research in prevention, detection, new and improved treatment and quality of life to ultimately stop deaths from breast cancer.

Outreach Partner: Convoy Of Hope
As part of the Breast Health Education Program, the National Breast Cancer Foundation is partnering with Convoy of Hope to provide breast cancer education and early detection services to women at community outreaches across the country. Through this partnership, we will be at Convoy of Hope outreaches educating women about the importance of early detection and connecting them to the resources that are available in their community.
Through this initiative, NBCF has trained over 4,000 volunteers and delivered life-saving services to over 74,000 women on breast self-awareness techniques. At select outreach events, NBCF is able to offer free mammograms to uninsured women through our network of partner hospitals.

Breast In Show: A Burlesque Breast Cancer Fundraiser
This cheeky event is happening both in-person and virtually this year, featuring Ramona Mourir and Greta von Tapp, two burlesque dancers and breast cancer survivors. The event will raise money to support SBC as well as as Recovery on Water, a rowing team that gives breast cancer patients and survivors the unique opportunity to interact, stay active in recovery, and gain support from peers. This is the third year for the event, and the last two productions each raised over $2K.

If youve never done a self-exam before, ask your doctor or nurse practitioner for help. Dimpling, redness, scaliness, or nipple discharge are all signs that something is wrong with your breast. Granted, some breasts are more lumpy than others, but any changes in size or tissue should prompt you to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
