Remember Metavivor In Your Will

We are frequently asked how an individual can bequeath a donation to METAvivor Research and Support in their Last Will and Testament. Arranging to have all or a portion of your estate go to METAvivors Research Fund upon your death is a most generous final act. We suggest you discuss the various options with your lawyer and offer verbiage below that you might consider.

SPECIFIC BEQUESTS should read:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to METAVIVOR RESEARCH AND SUPPORT IN ANNAPOLIS MD , the sum of $________, for the benefit of its metastatic breast cancer research fund.

RESIDURY BEQUESTS are made when you intend to leave the residue portion of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied. These should read:

“All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I give to METAVIVOR RESEARCH AND SUPPORT IN ANNAPOLIS MD for its metastatic breast cancer research fund.

CONTINGENCY BEQUESTS allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you. These should read:

“I devise and bequeath the residue of the property, real and personal and wherever situated, owned by me at my death, to , if survives me. If does not survive me, I devise and bequeath my residuary estate to METAVIVOR RESEARCH AND SUPPORT IN ANNAPOLIS MD, for its metastatic breast cancer research fund.”

Take Part In Research Studies

You dont have to have cancer to take part in a research study. There are different ways to get involved in this way. Some kinds of studies you might be able to try are:

  • cancer prevention trials, which try to find better ways to prevent people from getting cancer or lower the chances that they will get it
  • studies of families with an inherited condition that may increase cancer risk
  • cohort studies, which follow a group of people over time to study their cancer outcomes
  • cancer screening studies that look at different methods of detecting cancer

Monetary Donations For Research

Breast cancer research helps us understand the condition better, but it can be costly. To improve breast cancer outcomes, research topics focus on prevention, treatment, and survivorship.

You can donate money to your favorite charities directly through online forms. Some organizations also host fundraising events to donate both time and money. Below are a few organizations both domestic and overseas that fund necessary breast cancer research that could help people in the U.S.:

  • Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research conducts and collaborates on breast cancer research initiatives. For every dollar donated, 82 cents is used to fund research and patient-centered programs.

  • Breast Cancer Now supports breast cancer research in the United Kingdom. You can get involved in fundraising events like afternoon tea or charity bike rides.

  • The National Breast Cancer Foundation supports Australian research. You can donate money and volunteer at events. You can also apply to help with community outreach, or help improve their business as a Corporate Volunteer.

If donating money is a challenge, you can sign up to donate a part of other purchases to breast cancer charities. For example:

Cathy Conroy Is One Of Those Albertans Hoping For A Better Way To Predict Who Will Benefit From Certain Therapies

So far, no biomarkers have been clinically proven to predict sensitivity to chemotherapy. But Dr. Ing Swie Goping at the University of Alberta and Dr. John Mackey at the Cross Cancer Institute, are hoping to change that. Dr. Goping garnered attention in the world of cancer research when she discovered that a protein, called BAD for short, made cancer cells more sensitive to taxane chemotherapy. Her team believes that the higher the levels of BAD protein in the tumour, the better chance the patient has of responding favourably.

If she is right, it will mark the first predictive biomarker for taxane chemotherapy.

How To Find Reputable Organizations

Gas stations across Nebraska donating ethanol purchases to cancer research

With so many options available, it can be challenging to determine which charities are going to make best use of your dollars.

In addition to making sure the organizations vision and mission are in line with your charitable goals, its crucial to make sure you know where your money is going and what percentage actually is used on program expenses.

Most reputable charities post relevant financial information on their websites. This includes annual reports and links to their Form 990, a document that provides the public with financial information about a nonprofit organization.

U.S. tax-exempt nonprofits are required to provide copies of the three most recently filed annual information returns and the organizations application for tax exemption.

Additionally, the IRS keeps a searchable list of organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions, with links to Form 990 returns.

Several online tools are available to make the task of evaluating multiple charities easier.

Charity Navigator is one of the most well-known charity evaluators and measures a charitys financial health and accountability and transparency. Its ratings show givers how efficiently it believes a charity will use their support, and how well it has sustained its programs and services over time.
