There is some good news. Researchers have found that if women engage in regular resistance training during and after cancer treatment, including activities such as push ups, sit ups, walking lunges, using stretchy bands to challenge your muscles, or lifting weights, they are much less likely to gain weight. Resistance training preserves your muscle , and this in turn keeps your metabolism higher.;
If resistance training is combined with regular cardio or aerobic activities, weight gain is even less likely to occur. Combining regular weight training with regular aerobic activity also is key for losing weight.
If youve never done any resistance training, ask your doctor for a or . Also, if youve recently had , be sure to get the OK from your doctor that you can begin some moderate resistance training. Fortunately, the latest research shows that women will not increase the risk of by strength training.
What Are The Side Effects Of Anastrozole
Side effects may start within a day of starting Anastrozole. This is because Anastrozole lowers total body estrogen levels by about 70% within 24 hours of starting the drug, which causes side effects similar to those of menopause, such as hot flashes or difficulty sleeping.

Common side effects of Anastrozole that affect more than 5% of women and generally start soon after therapy begins to include:

Ms. Dixon:;Do you exercise regularly? If not, this is the first thing you can do to rev up a sluggish metabolism. If youre already engaged in regular, daily physical activity, you may need to mix it up a bit.;
Our bodies adapt to activity, so the only way to keep improving fitness levels and keep our metabolism humming, is to keep the body guessing. For example, stead-state cardio, such as jogging at a set pace, needs to be mixed with what is called;high-intensity interval training, or HIIT.;
Interval training is one of the most effective ways to rev up metabolism. You dont need to do hours of this type of training, just 15;or 20 minutes as long as you are truly going all out during the high-intensity phase a few times per week can greatly increase metabolism.;
In addition to HIIT, you can benefit from adding some resistance or strength training to your regular activities. Muscles are what burn calories, so the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate. Even something as simple as using your own body weight for resistance can be enough to build muscle .;

How Can Weight Gain From Fluid Retention Be Managed
Fluid retention or edema is swelling caused by the buildup of fluid in the body. If you have edema, you might feel like your clothes, rings, or shoes are too tight. People with edema can also have less flexibility in their hands, elbows, wrists, fingers, or legs. Swollen arms or legs, especially around the wrists or ankles, are also a sign of edema. The fluid buildup collects under the skin, so your skin might feel puffy or stiff. Pressing on your skin might leave small indentations.
Talk to your health care team about any of these symptoms so they can diagnose and treat edema. Some of the ways edema can be managed include:

Medication. Your doctor can prescribe a diuretic to remove excess water.

Lower the amount of salt in your diet.

Regarding where the weight goes your midsection vs. other areas of the body tamoxifen may contribute to a thicker middle. Many women put on weight in their mid-section as they age, and this is generally attributed to decreasing levels. Since tamoxifen actively works to block the activity of estrogen in many tissues, it can contribute to weight gain around the belly.

What Can I Do To Help Maintain My Weight And Build Strength
Along with taking any medicines your doctor prescribes, there are many things you can do to help your body stay strong. Good, balanced nutrition and proper hydration are very important:
Eat a balanced diet, and be sure to include protein to protect lean body mass. Beef, pork, poultry, tofu and soy nuts are excellent sources of protein. So are dairy products try some Greek yogurt, which is higher in protein than regular yogurt. Increase the number of calories you eat. Choose nutritious foods that you enjoy. If appetite is a problem, try eating smaller, more frequent meals; make milkshakes, smoothies, and purees, which may be easier to digest; and add milk or protein powder to your foods.
Drink plenty of liquids throughout the day. Water is best, but you can also get fluids from soups, popsicles and sports drinks.
Keep a journal. Keeping details of the side effects that you experience will help your health care team. Having a health care journal or notebook will allow you to keep all of your health information in one place. If you are experiencing constipation, it may be helpful to keep a journal detailing:
- Physical activities you do and how they affect your mood and energy level
- Your diet
- Fluid intake and type of fluid
- Medications youre currently taking
Edema And Cancer Treatment
Certain exercises and diet changes can help, if edema is the cause of swelling. Your doctor may also prescribe medicine called a diuretic.
Edema, a condition in which fluid builds up in your bodys tissues, may be caused by some types of chemotherapy, certain cancers, and conditions not related to cancer.
Signs of edema may include:
- swelling in your feet, ankles, and legs
- swelling in your hands and arms
- swelling in your face or abdomen
- skin that is puffy, shiny, or looks slightly dented after being pressed
- shortness of breath, a cough, or irregular heartbeat
Tell your health care team if you notice swelling. Your doctor or nurse will determine what is causing your symptoms, advise you on steps to take, and may prescribe medicine.
Some problems related to edema are serious. Call your doctor or nurse if you feel short of breath, have a heartbeat that seems different or is not regular, have sudden swelling or swelling that is getting worse or is moving up your arms or legs, you gain weight quickly, or you dont urinate at all or urinate only a little.
