Does Putting Your Phone In Your Bra Cause Breast Cancer

Im Scared To Get A Mammogram Because I Heard It Can Cause Breast Cancer Does It

Verify: Does putting a cell phone in your bra cause breast cancer?

Truth: The American Cancer Society suggests women begin annual mammograms to screen for breast cancer around their 40th birthday. Doctors sometimes recommend earlier screening for women with a higher risk of developing breast cancer, such as a family history of the disease. Because the screening involves radiation exposure, some people fear it can actually cause breast cancer and not just check for it. Experts share that the amount of radiation youre exposed to during a mammogram is low, and there has never been a single known case of someone getting breast cancer from the screening. The benefits of mammograms far outweigh the risks.

In Your Bed Or Under Your Pillow

Sleeping with your cell phone is a bad idea for a few reasons. First, keeping your phone under your pillow could build up heat and present a potential fire hazard, especially if your phone is charging or has a defect. Its also known that the LED light from phone screens can disrupt melatonin production and circadian rhythms, hurting your sleep quality, according to the National Sleep Foundation. And, of course, theres also radiation to consider as well. The amounts of radiofrequency radiation cell phones give off are the same ones emitted from microwaves. There is also concern about the safety of cell phone use with respect to cancer and brain tumors, per the American Cancer Society.

How To Choose The Right Bra

While bras can never reverse the consequences of Mother Nature, they can give women the shape and comfort they want.

Here are some recommendations for picking the correct bra:

  • Proper Fitting. A lot of individuals are not getting the right size. Thats not proper support when you slip out of your bra or spill out of it. With a strap that suits you comfy across your torso, you have something to rely on support, because thats going to hold your chest in place.
  • Comfortable. A bra should be convenient to wear, but supportive at the same time. It should be comfortable enough that your shoulders and back do not feel the pressure.
  • Restrictive Bra. Risk losing the bras that cause the shoulders to be indented or have wires that cut through your breast.

If you prefer a well-tailored bra around your chest and snugly fit, your breasts will be better supported.

Are Phones On 5g Networks Any Different

Fifth generation cellular networks are now being rolled out in many parts of the United States and in other countries. 5G networks are capable of transmitting much larger amounts of data over shorter periods of time than previous generations .

5G networks operate on some higher frequency RF wavelengths than older generation networks . But the newer 5G signals still use RF waves, so they are still forms of non-ionizing radiation, which is not thought to have the ability to directly damage DNA.

The studies that have been done so far to look at possible links between cell phone use and cancer have focused on older generation signals. At this time, there has been very little research showing that the RF waves used in 5G networks are any more of a concern than the other RF wavelengths used in cellular communication. Sleep And Cancer Survivorship

Towards Better Health: Dr. Oz Says Keeping Your Cell Phone ...

Being diagnosed with cancer can bring about a variety of significant life changes. The physical and emotional effects of having cancer and going through cancer treatment can be long-lasting, creating diverse challenges for cancer survivors.

In one study of breast cancer survivors who were between six months and five years post-diagnosis, 78% had above-average sleep difficulties. Survivors have also listed sleep as one of the most important issues for their health.

Addressing sleep problems can be especially important for survivors of childhood cancer . Childhood cancer and its treatment often lead to long-term effects, including impacts on both mental and physical development. Quality sleep may help reduce these effects and bolster the immune system to strengthen their overall well-being.

Cancer survivors should talk with their doctor about creating a wellness plan that covers not just sleep but also other important health concerns like diet, exercise, and follow-up care. This plan can include steps for effective sleep hygiene to promote positive sleep habits.

These days everyone always seems to be on their phones, especially teenagers and young adults. I personally am guilty of this constant need to have my phone on me, even if Im not using it. Also like the majority of girls I know, Im also guilty of putting my phone in my bra if my hands are full or I dont have a pocket. I remember my mom constantly scolding me for this habit in high school, saying the phone was going to give me breast cancer if I keep doing it. So naturally Im curious if there is any evidence of this rumor.

Can Chemicals In The Environment Cause Breast Cancer

Theres no conclusive evidence that exposure to chemicals in the environment increases your risk of breast cancer.

Lots of studies have looked at the relationship between breast cancer and chemicals in the environment such as pesticides, traffic fumes and plastics, but theres no clear evidence of any links.

It can be very difficult to work out the effects of individual chemicals when we are exposed to low levels of thousands of chemicals during our lifetime.

Some studies have suggested that women who are exposed to chemicals in their jobs, for example in the manufacturing industry, may be at higher risk of breast cancer. But the evidence is weak and more research is needed. Employers are legally required to limit exposure to chemicals that may cause cancer.

Here’s What You Need To Know About Stowing That Phone In Your Sports Bra Out Of Convenience

Reader Q: I often put my phone in my bra when Im working out. Is that dangerous?

Sometimes theres just no good place to keep a cell phone when youre at the gym. But when it comes to cancer risks, dont fret: Experts say there is no data to suggest a link between cell phone use and breast cancer, no matter where you stow your device.

But keeping your phone in your bra while you exercise can create other unexpected problems. We know that mobile phones may harbor several species of bacteria, and irritated or macerated skin is very susceptible to bacterial infections such as staphylococcus and streptococcus, notes Lauren Ploch, M.D., a dermatologist in Augusta, GA. If you dont have a pocket in which to put your phone, try stowing it on an armband or waist belt to help protect your skin while you work up a sweat.

Why You Absolutely Shouldnt Put Your Mobile Phone In Your Bra

Cell phones carried in your bra causes CANCER!

By WH Staff | Apr 26, 2021

Dont have pockets? Ah, Ill just put it in my bra. Want quick and easy access? Pop it in my bra. Trying to avoid pickpockets? I guess I can put it in my bra.

Its safe to say there are more than a few of us are guilty of using our bras as a go-to stowaway for all sorts of things, but the decision to put your phone in your bra is absolutely the wrong one.

A Melbourne researcher from Monash University, Dr Mary Redmayne, says that women should not be letting their phone touch their breasts, or be anywhere else on their skin, as many studies have pointed to an increased risk of brain tumours from extended mobile phone use.

While the information on whether smartphone exposure has links to breast cancer is lacking, she explains that people should play it safe and ensure they do not store their smartphones directly against their bodies.

The warning comes after a Monash University study revealed that a quarter of women surveyed had carried their smartphone tucked into their bra, and that while they had concerns about whether smartphone use was linked to sleep issues, cancer and headaches or dizziness, this didnt translate to how closely they kept the phone to their chest.

Its also interesting to note that a number of smartphone manufacturers, such as Apple, warn against storing your smartphone touching your skin.

How Far Away From Your Body Should Your Cell Phone Be

Does your cell phone speak of such warnings? iPhones do. If you have one, do this exercise:

Go to settings > go to general > go to about > scroll to the bottom and click on legal > go to the bottom to RF exposure > you can read it all, but minimally read the 3rd paragraph where it discusses how far from the body the cell phone should be.

p.s. 10 mm = 1/2 inch

More studies need to occur but for now, heading the warning of not wearing your cell phone might be prudent. It has also been established the young children should not play with cell phones as their skull is thinner and the brain is, therefore, more affected by the RF radiation.

Another study looked at men who placed their cell phone in their back pocket for the majority of their waking hours. On the side that they placed their phone, the density of the hip bones was less than the side that didnt receive any radiation.

What Do Studies Show

Researchers use 2 main types of studies to try to determine if something might cause cancer:

  • Studies done in the lab
  • Studies looking at groups of people

In most cases neither type of study provides enough evidence on its own to show if something causes cancer in people, so researchers usually look at both lab-based and human studies.

The following is a brief summary of some of the major studies that have looked at this issue to date. However, this is not acomprehensive review of all studies that have been done.

What You Can Do To Lessen Your Risk

What should you do if you want or need to wear your cell phone for some reason? Simply put it on airplane mode. Then you will not receive any radiation. Should you wish to make a call or check your messages, switch the phone back on and youre back in communication! When you have landed at your destination, place your phone on a surface that is a few inches away from your body.

At this time this is considered the safest use of cell phones.

Reducing your risk of cancer beyond safe cell phone use should include:

Maintaining or achieving a normal body weight. Excess fat, especially around the midsection, is particularly dangerous and toxic to the body.

Avoiding artificial ingredients, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, preservatives, and GMO foods.

Avoiding simple carbohydrates in the form of refined grains and sugar.

Consuming 9 servings or organics fruits and vegetables each day. At least 5 of the 9 should be vegetables.

Discovering if you have any food sensitivities gluten and dairy are the most common.

Discovering if you have any hidden infections. A lab test can determine this.

Exercising 30 minutes per day, at least 5 times per week. Get a heart rate monitor and keep your pulse rate at 180 minus your age.

If you are taking any medications, work with a clinician who can get to the root cause of the problem, correct it, and hopefully wean you off the medication safely.

Sound simple? It turns out that it is.

Yes Phones In Bras Are A Thing

cell

Like it or not, womens clothing design often favors form over function. Pockets can ruin the lines of a garment, so designers simply do away with them. Sportswear is a great example how many women, heading out for a jog on their own, opt to stash their cell phone in their sports bra rather than risk being without it?

Other women simply find that slipping their phone into their bra is a handy way to keep it safe and close at hand. Some bras and sports bras these days are even deliberately designed with cell phone pockets built in to cater to this habit.

In one 2017 study from Australia, 25% of women surveyed had carried their phones in their bras at one time or another, with 15% having done so in the past week. The youngest age groups had the highest rates of phone-in-bra use.

To think about it another way, thats 15 women out of every 100 regularly carrying their cell phone directly against their chest and breasts.

Do Cell Phones Emit Radiation

Cell phones emit low levels of non-ionizing radiation when in use. The type of radiation emitted by cell phones is also called radio frequency energy. As stated by the National Cancer Institute, There is currently no consistent evidence that non-ionizing radiation increases the risk of cancer in humans.

How Can I Lower My Exposure To Rf Waves From Cell Phones

It is not clear at this time that RF waves from cell phones cause harmful health effects in people, but studies now being done should give a clearer picture of the possible health effects in the future. Until more is known, there are several things that people who are concerned about RF waves can do to limit their exposure.

Use the speaker mode or video chat feature on the phone, or a hands-free device such as a corded or cordless earpiece. This moves the antenna away from your head, which decreases the amount of RF waves that reach the head. Corded earpieces emit virtually no RF waves . Bluetooth® earpieces typically transmit RF waves at much lower power levels than cell phones themselves .

Texting instead of talking on the phone may be another way to reduce your exposure. But it may not be a good option in some situations, especially if you are driving. For safety reasons, it is especially important to limit or avoid the use of cell phones while driving.

Limit your cell phone use. This is one of the most obvious ways to limit your exposure to RF waves from cell phones. For example, you may want to limit the amount of time you spend talking on the phone . Parents who are concerned about their childrens exposure can limit how much time they spend talking on the phone.

Cell Phones And Thyroid Cancer

Since the incidence of thyroid cancer has been increasing in many parts of the world, scientists wondered if cell phones may be playing a role in that increase. The answer may be both yes and no depending on other risk factors for the disease.

In a study looking at trends in the Swedish Cancer Registry from 1970 to 2017, researchers noted a significant increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer. They felt this was a true increase , as a similar increase was noted in both small cancers and large cancers.

Since the increase corresponded to cell phone use, the researchers postulated that RFR may be a causative factor in the rising incidence. It’s important to note that correlation doesn’t mean causation. There could be other reasons for an increase in thyroid cancer incidence over this time period, so looking at the question from other angles is needed.

A 2019 study found no significant association between cell phone use and thyroid cancer, though there was a non-statistically significant increase in the incidence of thyroid microcarcinomas in people who had either used a cell phone for over 15 years, used their phone for more than two hours daily, or had the most cumulative use hours.
