Join us for a brand new Breast Walk Ever in Hampshire on Sunday 7th May.
The event village is set in the rural grounds of the IBM Hursley near Winchester, where there is free on-site parking, refreshments and toilets.
Whichever route you choose we are sure there is something for everyone, with just a little preparation. Dogs are welcome too! There is no age limit, participants under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Take part and help fund ground-breaking research into secondary spread, the main cause of breast cancer related deaths, much of which is carried out in nearby Southampton.
Each route is fully signposted and marshalled with support stations at regular intervals.
Do The Walks Sponsors Increase Womens Risk Of Breast Cancer
Organizations promote their corporate sponsors as genuinely caring about women with breast cancer.
But the reality is some corporations and organizations involved in breast cancer walks put their own profit before womens health by pinkwashing. Pinkwashing is a term we coined in 2002 to describe a company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer, but at the same time makes or promotes products linked to the disease.
For example, each year, the Avon Foundation puts on multi-day breast cancer walks in cities nationwide. But Avon Products, the multi-billion dollar cosmetics corporation behind the foundation, uses chemicals in its makeup that are linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. Avon has long been targeted by activists to remove from its cosmetics cancer-linked ingredients like methylparaben, a chemical that has been found to increase breast cancer risk and interfere with breast cancer treatment.
How Much Money Raised From The Walk Will Go To Breast Cancer Programs
Organizations promote their walks by suggesting that the money raised by walk participants goes straight to supporting breast cancer programs.
But the reality is a big chunk of the money raised is often unaccounted for. Financial records of the event arent always publicly available or arent available in a clear, understandable format. This makes finding out how much money goes to breast cancer programs, how much goes to putting on the walk itself, and how much goes elsewhere an often impossible taskor one that requires a lot of time and resources. This information should be easy to find, especially as some walks require people to raise a large amount of money to participate.
For example, The AVON 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer requires participants to raise $1,800 and states on its website that this money is given to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations. In 2015, it lists that about $18 million total was given to such organizations in grants. Yet, about $34 million was raised from these events . This means 47% of the money raised from the 2015 walks isnt publicly accounted for.

Every year since 2009, hundreds of Redeemer friends, such as yourself, have walked in solidarity to raise awareness for the breast cancer program. Join us to walk again this year! We are proud to report that after two years of holding the walk virtually, we will be able to gather once again for an in-person event!
On October 15th, we will meet on the campus of Bryn Athyn College. Registration opens at 8 a.m., with the walk itself beginning at 9 a.m. You’ll receive a commemorative t-shirt. All proceeds go to support breast health programs at Redeemer Health in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.

Questions To Ask Before You Walk For Breast Cancer
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people come together to participate in breast cancer walks and runs in cities across the U.S. Since the first breast cancer walks began in the 1980s, they have become one of the most common ways for people to try to do something about breast cancer.
Some of these walks have become huge affairs that are hosted by multi-million dollar charities and sponsored by multi-billion dollar corporations that raise millions to end breast cancer. And yet each year, 250,000 women still get diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,000 women still die of this disease.
As far back as the 1990s, Breast Cancer Action members and other women affected by breast cancer have been asking how much of an impact these walks actually have in supporting women and saving their lives. As these walks have become larger and more closely tied to corporations, these questions are more pressing than ever.
If you want to be sure your time and money are truly making a difference, here are four easy questions to ask before participating in or donating to a breast cancer walk:

Komen Race For The Cure
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® is an education and fundraising event for breast cancer. The series of 5K runs and fitness walks raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors that who have lost their battle with the disease. Alternatives To Breast Cancer Walks:
There are many meaningful ways to take an active role in addressing and ending the breast cancer epidemic. If you cant answer the above questions to your satisfaction, you may want to consider these alternative ways to take action:
1. Contact organizations and corporations that put on breast cancer walks to get answers to the questions above and then demand changes you want to see.
2. Volunteer for or give directly to a breast cancer organization that is doing work you think is important and that doesnt take money from pinkwashing companies that profit from the disease at the expense of our health.
3. Learn more and educate others about the history and politics of the breast cancer movement by hosting a film screening of the documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc.
4. Share your story to help others think critically about these fundraising events.

For Survivors Previvors Thrivers And Caregivers
It is important to note that the American Cancer Society defines a survivor as anyone who has heard the words you have cancer, so if you are recently diagnosed, currently going through treatment, or are in remission, this tent is for you!
Survivors, Thrivers, and Previvors check-in at the Pink Survivor Tent when you arrive at Field 5. We highly encourage survivors to sign-up online before the event. The survivor area is a special area for survivors and the caregivers attending with them. We include both survivors and caregivers to make sure everyone is as comfortable as possible. Youll find important information about American Cancer Society programs and services geared specifically for you. In addition you can receive your complimentary 2022 survivor shirt and medals.
City Of Lauderhill Commissioner Jabbow To Distribute Funds To Cancer Warriors From Proceeds Raised At Pink Up Events
Lauderhill, FL Thursday, December 15, 2022 6:00PM Lauderhill Commissioner Lawrence Jabbow Martin sponsored and presented the 2nd Annual Pink Up Bike Ride and Health Fair in October 2022 to raise funds for Cancer Warriors. Pink Up events, with the help of participants and many generous sponsors, successfully raised over $18,000 dollars over the past two years. Some of those funds were donated to Broward Health and American Cancer Society in 2022.
This year, on December 21, 2022 Commissioner Jabbow will be accepting grant applications to allow residents who are currently battling cancer in the community to apply for a $500 grant from the Pink Up fundraisers. Applications will be considered until February 15, 2023 or until the funds are expended on a first-come, first-approved basis. Applicants must be:
Commissioner Jabbow shares, Now that we have successfully held two Pink Up fundraisers, we are able to support Cancer Warriors and show them love, support, and hope. The grant money available is the direct result of people and businesses in the community chipping in. Recipients of these funds should use the money to do something spectacular for themselves. Does The Walk Present A One
Organizations promote their walks by suggesting that overcoming a breast cancer diagnosis is as simple as fighting hard, getting an annual mammogram, and thinking positively.
But the reality is breast cancer is a complex, devastating disease. No amount of individual willpower, screening or positive thinking can protect women from developing metastatic breast cancer, an incurable diagnosis that kills 40,000 women each year. And for patients who dont develop metastatic breast cancer, the disease can still leave life-long physical, mental, emotional and financial burdens. Yet, from the women they use in their marketing materials to the women they celebrate at the walk itself, organizations that put on walks too often highlight healthy-looking women and stories of triumphant survivorship through fighting like a girl and beating cancer.
For example, many women, especially those living with metastatic breast cancer, have felt alienated by the big breast cancer walks for many years. In the documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc., the late Sandy Kugelman explains how the portrayal of breast cancer as a disease that can be defeated is hurtful because it ignores the fact that women die of the disease through no fault of their own: You cant have that message and then not see people who die as somehow not having lost their battle. Because why? Maybe they didnt try hard enough. That kind of painful messagingits just wrong.

Rd Annual Walk/run/yoga Fundraiser And Community Expo Was Saturday September 24 2022
Our in-person Walk/Run/Yoga event was a tremendous success. We had over 530 registrants, 39 Community Expo exhibitors, and we raised well over $85,000. The morning was fun, festive, and deeply meaningful. We were joined by emcee Heather Holmes of KTVU FOX 2, Shameem of Xtrim Bollywood led our energetic dance warmup, Dutra Enterprises served over 700 barbecue lunches, and our survivors and their caregivers were touched by our traditional Elaines Memorial Circle.

Breast Cancer Walk At Jones Beach Draws 65000 To Raise Awareness Funds
Ashlyn Ford came to theannual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach State Park early Sunday morning with a mission.
I want people to know my mom, said Ford, 21, a Nassau Community College student from Elmont. This is our first year without her.
Ford clutched a poster-sized photo of her mother, Marilyn Monica Thomas-Ford, looking radiant in a blue gown after completing the walk with her 11-year-old sister, Angelina, and other family and friends.
They joined a crowd organizers estimated at 65,000 people who took part in the American Cancer Society’s event to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and patient programs.

For Nearly Four Decades Now The Country Has Recognized October As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month It Is A Time Annually Devoted To Educating Everyone About Breast Cancer Including Metastatic Breast Cancer And The Importance Of Early Detection And Access To Timely High
No matter who you are or where you live, breast cancer may touch your life. Its necessary to understand the warning signs of breast cancer, your risk of breast cancer and whats normal for you so you can take action if there are any changes in your breasts or underarm areas.
Since 1989, Susan G. Komen has helped drive down mortality rates from breast cancer thanks to our focus on early detection and improvements in treatment. However, that progress may be in jeopardy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people delayed their regular breast cancer screening. The pandemic disrupted treatment and research progress.
And more progress is still needed. Through research, growing knowledge about breast cancer has led to new therapies and targeted treatments that improved outcomes for many people. It is research that brings hope to people facing this disease, especially those living with MBC. We need to ensure more treatment options are available for all people facing breast cancer, especially when treatments stop working.
The COVID-19 pandemic also highlighted the inequities in breast cancer treatments for under-resourced communities across the country, as well as the inequity in treatment between Black and white women. Black women in the U.S. are about 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women.
Thats why Susan G. Komen encourages you to dedicate this October as a time of action both for yourself and others.
Th Annual Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk
The Penn Highlands Mon Valley Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk, a favorite event in the Mon Valley, will host the annual walk on Saturday, October 8, at the Center for Fitness and Health in the Penn Highlands Mon Valley HealthPlex in Belle Vernon.
The one-mile fun walk supports the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer in our community at Penn Highlands Mon Valley.
This years proceeds will benefit the Regional Cancer Center at Penn Highlands Mon Valley, with the purchase of a clip marker system, for mammography biopsies. This system will improve the quality and accuracy of diagnostics and therapy for patients. Proceeds will also help to purchase an interface upgrade, to our vital sign machines. The upgrade will automatically add the patients vital signs to their electronic health record thus providing the healthcare professional more face-to-face time with the patient.

What Breast Cancer Programs Will The Walk Fund
Organizations promote their walks by suggesting that the money raised by walk participants goes to breast cancer programs that save womens lives.
But the reality is organizations that put on walks sometimes mislead participants by using the money raised to fund ineffective efforts like empty awareness or early detection programs, which havent reduced breast cancer death rates. Meanwhile, research programs that remain severely underfunded include those looking into the environmental links to breast cancer that could prevent women from getting breast cancer in the first place and those that look into metastatic breast cancer so fewer women die of the disease.
For example, the very name of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series suggests that the money raised from these walks will go to research. But Komens website states that only 25% of the money raised goes to their research and training grants program, a category that doesnt even reveal how much money is going to research. Komen has long been criticized for their small percentage of investment in research funding. A large portion of Komens budget goes to raising awareness and early detection programs.
